Weed Eaters

Wow, my daughter passed this video along to me. What do you think?! It’s a commercial for a DVD set showing you how to harvest and use the herbs and weeds that grow everywhere… but the information is pretty neat. When I was a girl, my parents went “redneck,” and we ate squirrels and some weeds. Some of the plants this guy lists is pretty intense.

I just may check it out. Lord knows, we really need to be more self-sufficient and healthy. If you have any information to pass along about this topic, PLEASE DO. I’m rather wary of “self improvement” media… as Mark Twain said, “Be careful what you read in health books; you may die from a misprint.” lol But I’m willing to check it out.

More to come.

The Continuing Raw Meal Drink Smoothie Saga….

I’m still at it, folks. Yep. I’m STILL trying to finish off this HUGE barrel of raw meal health powder.

But Lord help me, it’s awful stuff.

If you search for “raw meal drink” in the search bar, you’ll see the posts I’ve written on the topic. I bought the Garden of Life Raw Meal organic meal replacement drink. It’s SOOOOO healthful. That’ the only reason I drink it, because it’s healthful. Believe me, I’ve tried everything in the book to make this stuff more palatable, and I’ve yet to find the formula. I’ve tried it straight, in grape juice, strawberry milk, chocolate milk, orange juice…. *shudder*

After a few of you suggested adding it to a strawberry or fruit smoothie, I decided I’d try it. So I interrupted my important document scanning and phone calling to get a quick boost of raw meal energy.

Hm. I ruined a PERFECTLY good strawberry/pineapple smoothie, I’ll have you know! lol

Healthy. I need good health. OK OK. I can do this. *jumps up and down like Rocky Balboa* yep yep yep. I’m ready, man, give it.

*down the hatch*

*wretch*

It’s better than the grape juice concoction. The pineapple that I added to the smoothie helped take off the latex paint/sidewalk chalk/pasty mold taste from the drink. I drank a HUGE glass.

And promptly washed it down with a greasy hamburger.

Here’s to good health.

Four Foods on Friday #137

I buy (and cook and eat) ramen noodles like I read cell phone reviews: only when I need them.

I try to avoid ramen noodles, although my son loves loves loves them. The pre-packaged kind (with the small aluminum packets filled with powdered seasoning) are so unhealthy. I don’t like all that sodium and chemical stuff in it. But I think the ramens themselves are “ok.”

But when I buy the ramen and my son cooks them, the delicious smell of them makes me want them. :D

This week there are four questions about ramen noodles.

1. How do you usually make ramen noodles?
2. What’s your favorite flavor of ramen noodles?
3. Do you add anything to your ramen noodles?
4. Is there a flavor of ramen noodles do you wish was on the market?

1. Like I said, I try not to. But we eat them maybe 2-3 times every other month.

2. Chicken or beef. I dislike the “shrimp.” That’s shrimp, yeahhhhh rrrright.

3. Unfortunately, usually just the powdered seasoning packets. I used to get creative and add small florets of broccoli or kale or whatever. But I’m busy. I don’t make lunch for the kids anymore, they make their own.

4. Hmm, interesting question. Maybe chocolate flavored?!?! LOL. I am pretty happy with the chicken and beef. :)

How about you?

Four Foods on Friday #136

I am seriously behind the Four Foods on Friday meme! And reading the questions for #136 make me very hungry for a grilled cheese sandwich, something I haven’t had in EONS. I used to make them relatively often as a single person (with that imitation sliced stuff, ICK!). I haven’t made them in many moons. I’m not much for fried food, anymore– I’m more in need of ripfire these days. :-p

Well, maybe I’ll make a grilled sandwich, anyway. I can practically smell it now… mmmm…. *floating toward kitchen*

This week there are four questions about grilled cheese.

1. How do you make grilled cheese?
2. What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever put on your grilled cheese sandwich and did you like it?
3. What’s your favorite bread for grilled cheese?
4. Have you ever tried to make a grilled cheese sandwich using a shortcut way? (Think iron, car engine, you get the picture.)

1. If I am going to make one, I’d slather two slices of bread with softened butter or margarine. I prefer butter, but am forced to use margarine if the butter is not room temperature. I’m sure you have tried to hack bits of cold butter on bread, only to mangle the slice beyond comprehension…. Well, then I slap on a slice of REAL American cheese. I like the texture of the cheese more than the taste. I wonder what makes it American? Anyway, I just throw the thing in the frying pan and fry it up until it’s golden brown. I do the other side, and tada.

2. I’m sure I have put strange things in it. I do it with everything else! But I haven’t made these in so long that I don’t remember. *think think think* Oh, I once tried a tomato slice, that didn’t turn out very well. The tomato, when warmed, got all slimy and disgusting. I have also tried tuna and salmon bits on top of the cheese. I don’t think those worked out, either. ….

3. Whole wheat.

4. Uhhhh noooo….. mostly because cleaning the car engine or grill of hardened butter and cheese would be NO FUN. It would defeat the purpose of a quick and easy meal. I always cook with an eye to clean up. :D

Good Dining Furniture

Looking for some really great prices on dining furniture like dining room tables, chairs, and adjustable bar stools. You guys have GOT to check out CSN Stores. They are amazing! I recently ordered some spice shelves and other items. The shipping was free and the products are very good quality.

My dining room furniture is totally shot. We’ve glued the chairs together the best we can to elude the inevitable expense, but it looks like I’m going to have to bite the bullet. I’ve been to my local retailers, but their selections are not the greatest (NO laminate chairs!) or they have high prices.

CSN Stores have a huge, huge selection. It’s almost overwhelming. They have everything. They also sell kitchen appliances, housewares, kitchen cleaning tools, kitchen dishes and utensils, outdoor cooking appliances (very nice grills!) and loads upon loads more.

If you’re looking for some good deals on everything (lol), CSN Stores is a great place to start. I’ve been very impressed with them. :)
